It is distinctive from other Japanese green teas because it is roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal, whereas most Japanese teas are steamed, altering the leaf colour tints from green to reddish brown. Often used as after dinner tea due to its very low level of caffeine, it is also often consumed by people who want to change from coffee to tea. Naturally low in caffeine.
